Trout fishing lodge on the lakefront of Highland Waters
Bronte Park, Tas 7140.

We have a 2 bedroom lakefront house with nearby tennis court available for rental. It is on a private lake called Highland Waters, developed by Jason and Barbara Garrett.

Dogs are welcome although they have to be controlled, are not to paddle in the shallows (disturbs the fish) or be excessively noisy.

About the house

The house is designed to accommodate 4 people. It has 2 bedrooms with a double and single bed (futon) in each and 2 bathrooms. There is also a washer, dryer and dishwasher. Instructions are in the sideboard drawer for all appliances. There is a reverse cycle airconditioner for heating and also there is heating in the floor. Check the meter box to ensure the hot water and floor heating is turned on, set the thermostats in each room to your desired temperature and check that the switch under each thermostat is also turned on. Please turn hot water and floor heating off at meter box before leaving. Bed linen and towels are supplied as are basic items such as soap, tea, coffee sugar, salt pepper, baked beans, tomato soup etc. Telephone number is (03) 6289 1113. There is a small electric BBQ.

How to get there

The house is approximately equidistant between Hobart and Launceston. From Hobart, take the road to Queenstown, go 23 km past Tarraleah until you come to a sign saying "Queenstown 109 km". (If you get to the Bronte Park turnoff, you have gone too far.) Turn right into the road opposite, which is the C173 to Osterley. 3km down this road on the left is a cyclone gate and a driveway to London Lakes Lodge. On the right you can see a lake -- this is Highland Waters. Continue along the road for about 2 km and there is a driveway on the right which is Highland Waters Estate.

From Devonport take the road (Hwy 1) to Deloraine then the A5 to Great Lakes and the B11, just before Miena to Bronte Park. After Bronte Park, turn left at the A10 towards Hobart and take the C173 to Osterley. There are several km of dirt road on this route. If in winter, the weather is bad and the road signs say the road is closed, ring the Great Lakes Hotel to check. Stop at the following shops (approximate distances from ferry): Chocolate Factory (8), The Big Spud fruit and veges (19), Ashgrove Cheese (38), Rasberry farm (46).

Other information

Fishing at Highland Waters is restricted to owners and guests (up to 6 at a time for our guests). You may fish at public lakes but will need a licence. The nearest town is Bronte Park and it is quite small, so bring your provisions. There is a lovely little beach at Lake St Clair for summer holiday makers.
